Artist's Statement about this work
I saw this White-winged Dove feasting on the fruit of a large saguaro when I was taking a walk in Sabino Canyon in Tucson, Arizona.
There is a symbiotic relationship between the dove and saguaro. The doves build homes inside of the cacti and eat the saguaro fruit. This provides them with shelter and food. In return, the bird distributes the seeds in the fruit that it eats, helping saguaros to grow and propagate.
